ABOUT US

ABOUT US

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission at House of Thrift is to establish a thrift store business that will make top quality fairly used goods available to individuals that are residents of the Greater Pittsburgh area. We intend to grow the business organically as we become more successful. Ultimately, we want to generate enough income to be able to work with charity’s at the least but eventually be successful enough to finance our own programs and services for the community.

BACKGROUND

House of Thrift, LLC was co-founded by Lisa McDonough and Kevin Staub in May 2018. Lisa and Kevin met while working together at another thrift store and continued to work together in the administrative department of a school until they decided to open their own thrift store.

ABOUT THE PRESIDENT

Lisa McDonough, HOT President

Lisa is a native of Pittsburgh but has lived and traveled globally. She has an MSc in International Development from the University of London, London, England. She earned her BA from the University of North Carolina where she double majored in Anthropology and  International Studies and Global Development, and minored in Sociology. She also has a CELTA certification to teach English as a second language from Teaching House, Chicago.

She has twenty-five years of cross-cultural experience and training through professional, personal, and academic endeavors and over ten years of management and leadership experience.

Helping Others Thrive
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

"We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say, 'It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.' Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes."

~ Fred Rogers

Fred-legacy-test.jpg

Here at House of Thrift (HOT), we care about our neighbors just like Mr. Rogers did back in the day. Therefore, community development is of great importance to us and we would like to be part of a greater change to improve the well-being of the great people of Pittsburgh, PA.

Sometimes just making people aware of whats available to them is a good start so HOT is compiling a list of websites that you can access by clicking on the tab for your neighborhood. These links will allow you to find programs or agencies in your local area that are here to help. These are House of Thrift's heroes:

*Please note that this section is active and more links will be added in time. If you know of a website that would help the people of your neighborhood, please share it with us by submitting it to houseofthriftllc@gmail.com or by Facebook message. Thanks for your participation!

Helping Others Thrive

Unlike most thrift stores, House of Thrift, LLC (HOT), helps the community by working with various partners on an array of projects instead of focusing on one cause. We also donate items to organizations that do outreach with those in need. Basically, we are here to help in whatever capacity we can. So, the more support we get from our neighbors, the more we can establish and participate in community outreach programs. Together, with our neighbors, we will fulfill our mission of Helping Others Thrive!

Here are some organizations we have worked with so far and some of what we do/have done:

  • North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO)

  • Millvale Community Library

  • Aspinwall Ministry

  • Girty's Run Watershed Association

  • We are a food collection destination for NHCO

  • Workforce Development – Employment workshops are conducted once a month at the Community Center in Millvale by HOT president

  • Provide vouchers to NHCO to give those in need of some extra help

  • Donate essential items needed for homeless folks and animal rescue

  • Co-host a clothing swap with Millvale Community Library

  • Support local vendors by providing a place for them to sell their products (note: we are not a consignment shop but a vendor can schedule a time to set up a table)

If there is something you would like to work on with HOT, feel free to reach out to us with your ideas!
